In 2018, founder Ashley Matlock was walking her dog and minding her business in the heart of the South Side Arts District when she saw (and fell in love with) a quirky space through a window. She signed a lease on the spot. Meet the team that inhabits this unique studio.
ASHLEY
MATLOCK
Ashley (she/her) has been behind the chair since 2008 after graduating from The Vision – Paul Mitchell Academy in Allentown. That’s when her love for the South Side began! She’s watched it change so much over the last several years. Rise Above Hair Studio opened its doors on South New Street in January 2018. New Year, New Me — that’s what they say, yeah?
She was nominated for a One Shot Award from BehindTheChair.com in 2019 alongside her hair bestie. She traveled the country as well learning and helping out behind the scenes at hair shows and helping out with classes. So all you mermaids and punk rock sweeties, getcha butts in here so we can create some killer hair!

CLARE
CACCIATORE
With over a decade of experience and a cosmetology teaching license, Clare (she/her) has practiced hair all the way from the east coast to the west coast (and back again). She chose to master personalization for each individual client.
Precision cutting is her strongest attribute. Each head of hair is different and requires the same amount of knowledge. Her favorite part about being a hair stylist is, bridal hair, formal event hair, funky braids and mermaid hair. She is a naturalist that packs a punch!
DOTTIE
Dottie is Ashley’s Bully that comes to hang out from time to time and sunbath in the front window. Her favorite food is stuffed crust, she loves hiney scratches and ear rubs, as well as her two older sisters – Midge and Stella. She may not look like the most active gal, but she loves a good stroll around the neighborhood and a swim in the summer.
